Manx cycling superstar Mark Cavendish faces the ultimate one-day race today.
One of his main goals for 2012 was to win the Milan-San Remo spring classic - one of the five monuments of cycling.
It's the longest day of the year in the saddle with a total race distance of 298 kilometres.
Tim Glover reports:-
The Manx Missile won the 100th edition of the Milan-San Remo in 2009 in one of the greatest sprint finishes in the history of the event.
He is desperate to repeat that success and take victory wearing the rainbow jersey of the current World Champion.
The Team Sky squad has been selected to help Cav achieve his target.
If he gets over the infamous Poggio climb with 10km to go still in the front group he will be confident of crossing the finish line ahead of the rest.
