Civil service pay rise agreed

by isleofman.com 16th March 2012

Civil servants will get a pay rise this year – at a cost to the taxpayer of around a million pounds.

But the Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Alf Cannan says the 1.2 per cent award is much lower than it could have been if the government was forced to go to arbitration.

The award follows months of talks between the government and unions and follows a long pay freeze for civil servants.

Mr Cannan says negotiations were tough given the government’s financial position.
