The Department of Economic Development invites organisations to take part in the 2012 STEP Programme.
STEP is a unique programme which places undergraduates into local organisations to work on specific projects for eight weeks during their summer break. The Department of Economic Development has administered STEP on the Isle of Man for the last ten years during which time more than one hundred and seventy projects have been completed.
Undergraduates are able to conduct research, analyse information, think objectively and report results clearly, as well as, providing physical and practical solutions. Overall, they are able to work with minimal supervision to bring forward a project. Importantly, they are able to deliver real tangible benefits and added value to the organisation, far beyond their modest cost.
For a relatively small sponsorship, businesses benefit from the work of talented undergraduates and, in return, the undergraduate gains work experience in an organisational environment on a project that can make a real difference. Under the Programme, students receive £210 per week which is funded by the participating organisations.
The Department is also pleased to confirm that Celton Manx Limited will again be sponsoring the Island programme and placements will again be co-ordinated by local businessman, Ian Moncrief-Scott.

‘STEP continues to be a valuable placement programme that over the years has demonstrated its benefits to both local business and undergraduates. The 2011 scheme received fantastic feedback with some hosts reporting savings in the region of £35,000 and all students boasting extra skills gained from their placement. I am also delighted to yet again have the support of our sponsors Celton Manx and the skills of Ian Moncrief-Scott.’
