More beach cleaning needed, says conservationist

A local conservationist and journalist says whilst a one-off beach clean organised by Marks and Spencer is welcome, it's just the tip of the iceberg.

It's due to take place at Douglas Bay in May as part of a British Isles-wide campaign.

Bill Dale runs Beach Buddies, which has been going since 2006.

He now goes out twice a week, as he believes the problem is getting worse, and is looking to step that up even more as the summer approaches.

Speaking live on Manx Radio from Douglas Promenade this morning, he said it was probably the wrong beach to target:
