by isleofman.com 16th March 2012

Brothers Robert and Neal Corran received their 40 and 30 year service awards respectively from visiting RNLI officials at a presentation at Douglas Lifeboat Station this week.

Robert Corran became a RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew member at Douglas in 1967 and was appointed as coxswain in 1976. Robert was awarded an MBE in The Queen's Birthday Honours list in 1999 for his service to the RNLI, retiring from the position of coxswain in 2003 but continues his involvement with the RNLI as shore crew at the Douglas Lifeboat Station.

Neal Corran joined the Douglas RNLI lifeboat crew in 1976, taking over as coxswain in 2003 from Robert on his retirement and is Douglas lifeboat’s current coxswain.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the RNLI as lifeboat crew, shore helper, or fund raiser should contact their nearest lifeboat station.
