The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure is pleased to announce that the Manx Electric Railway will start its 2012 service on Saturday 17th March.
Departures from Derby Castle, situated on Douglas Promenade are at 09:40, 11:10, 12:40 and 14:40, stopping at a number of beautiful locations along the coast of the Island, such as Groudle, Laxey and Ballaglass, before reaching the end of the line at Ramsey. The historic trams return from Ramsey, departing at 11:10, 12:40, 14:40 and 16:10.
Tickets remain the same price as last year and are available on the day from Derby Castle, Laxey and Ramsey stations. A return trip from Douglas to Laxey still costs just £10 per adult, or free if you have a resident ticket. Residents’ tickets allow unlimited travel on all scheduled services on the Steam, Manx Electric and Snaefell Mountain Railway for the 2012 operational season and continue to offer great value for money being priced at £55 per adult and £27.50 per child.
If you have a Residents’ Rail Card for the 2012 season, you can travel on all three railways at half price and be entitled to a discount on a special event ticket of your choice. Rail cards are priced at £11 per adult and come with a £5 discount voucher. The children’s rail card is priced at £5.50 and comes with a £2.50 voucher. So not only could you travel half price all through the season, the upcoming Mother’s Day event, ‘Thanks mum’, could cost just £11.50 for a rail and picnic ticket.
Residents' Rail Cards and Residents' Season Tickets are available from the Isle of Man Welcome Centre and a passport sized photograph will be required for each applicant.
This year’s timetable also includes a late night tram service on Wednesdays and Fridays during the summer evenings. Departures for Laxey leave Douglas at 17:40, 18:40, 19:10, 20:55 and 21:55, with the 17:40 and 20:55 continuing on to Ramsey. Trams to Douglas also depart Ramsey at 17:40 and 20:40.
With or without the addition of a Rail card, Residents or Explorer ticket, make the most of the summer evenings, stunning views and enjoy a trip along the Island’s coast on the Manx Electric Railway.
