Job losses were the alternative, says education minister

The education minister says up to 30 jobs would have been lost in primary and secondary schools from September had alternative plans not be drawn up.

Peter Karran made the admission as the decision to close two public libraries and transfer pre-school nurseries into private ownership came under fire in the House of Keys.

Mr Karran admits while the pre-school and library proposals sadden him, they were far less damaging than other options:
