Cav leaves Tirreno to focus on Milan-San Remo

by isleofman.com 12th March 2012

Mark Cavendish has dropped out of the tour he's been contesting for the last few days

Tweeting this lunchtime, he said, "Well, that's my Tirreno Adriatico done and dusted.

"Haven't finished today's stage, but good sensations. Now to rest up for Milan-San Remo."

The Tirreno Adriatico finishes tomorrow with an individual time trial, which Cavendish won't contest.

He had some success, winning the second stage in a bunch sprint finish.

The Manx Missile now sets his sights on Milan-San Remo, which he won in 2009.

The one-day classic race is seen as one of the most prestigious in the European cycling calender, being one of the 'Monuments' alongside the likes of Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders.

It is also the longest professional one-day race at 298km.

Team Sky's line-up for Saturday's race shows its intent to come away with a victory, with Cavendish backed-up by the likes of Bernard Eisel, Edvald Boasson Hagen and Ian Stannard.
