The children’s hospice on the Island – Rebecca House costs over £400,000 each year to run and currently looks after 25 children. Rebecca House Children’s hospice week UK is be held from 18th-27th May 2012 so as part of the national fundraising and awareness campaign the local hospice is running a week of activities and fun too.
Rebecca House provides day care, respite care and end of life care for children aged from birth to 18 years with life threatening and life limiting illnesses. The team currently look after 24 children aged from 6 months old to 16 years old.
The team at Rebecca House have organised a series of events to help raise the profile of and funds for this very valuable service.
The week of fun is launched with a super hero Ball at The Mount Murray Hotel on Friday 18th May – so grab your super hero costume and contact the fundraising department on 647434. Tickets will be £45 each. Fancy dress is optional.
Also starting on the Friday will be information stalls at Douglas Borough Library, Onchan Library and Noble’s Hospital.
There will also be an information stall at the Strand Shopping Centre. The Saturday will see the team bag packing at Shoprite, Victoria Road – so go along to Shoprite and support your local children’s hospice.
Sunday sees an open day at Rebecca House with tours of the 4 bedded unit along with a treasure Hunt, Davison’s Ice cream van and much more. There will also be an opportunity to meet Shrek, Spongebob and Princess Fiona. The open day is from 10am - 6pm. To book a tour, which will be held every hour on the hour, contact 647405.
Also on the Sunday 10 runners will be in Manchester running 10k for the charity – go runners go!
On Tuesday there is a quiz night at the Outback. Join the Rebecca House team and test your wits. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place plus fantastic raffle on the night. To enter a team contact 647405. Entry is £5 per team.
The Friday is really the highlight of the week with everyone on the island being invited to dress up as a Super Hero or their favourite rainbow colour and donate a minimum of £2 to the charity. There will also be a fantastic band night at newly opened Crescent Nightclub from 8pm to Midnight. Tickets are £5 and will feature Joey Wylde, Joshua Dillon and The Fecktones. As if all that wasn’t enough the team will be doing a pub crawl around Douglas so show your support for all their hard work on the Saturday night.
The final day of activities sees everyone getting involved in walking from Summerland to Douglas for a midday walk. Entry is £5 per family and all the children will receive a treat at the end of the walk. In addition to all the activities there is a raffle and silent auction too.
