Library protest on Saturday

by isleofman.com 9th March 2012

The latest protest against the planned closure of two Island libraries will take place tomorrow morning (Saturday).

One of the great names in British literature Alan Bennett has added his opposition to proposals to shut the mobile and family libraries.

From 10.30am on Saturday, a protest will be staged outside the Department of Education and Children’s family library in Douglas, which has also organised an open day.

With strong feeling over the libraries and plans to transfer government run pre-schools into private ownership, an Onchan man has set up a petition.

James Corrin wants the government to stop plans to spend ?750,000 on a replacement diesel locomotive and use the money for the libraries and pre-schools instead.
