Cav wins Tirreno-Adriatico stage

by isleofman.com 8th March 2012

Isle of Man cycling superstar Mark Cavendish has won stage two of the Tirreno-Adriatico in Italy.

The Manx Missile produced a trademark sprint for the line in a bunch finish to the 230 kilometre route to beat Oscar Freire and Tyler Farrar.

He avoided a crash inside the last 3km which took Philippe Gilbert out of contention.

It's his fourth win of the new season with Team Sky following two stages at the Tour of Qatar and a triumph at the one-day Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne in Belgium.

Tomorrow's stage is also potentially another opportunity for the sprinters before the climbs start over the weekend.
