Mugen to use McGuinness in TT Zero

by isleofman.com 5th March 2012

Having last month confirmed its participation in TT Zero, Japanese manufacturer Mugen has now made a huge statement of intent by announcing John McGuinness as its rider.

The Morecambe Missile, who has 17 victories around the Mountain Course, hasn't contested the race for electric machines so far, which has featured at the last three TTs.

The Mugen bike, called the Shinden, has a carbon fibre frame and 370-volt battery pack, which produces around 120bhp and 160lb/sq ft of torque.

M-Tec Company Ltd President Shin Nagaosa publicly unveiled the machine at the Suzuka racetrack in Japan at the weekend.

McGuinness says, "I've followed the electric bike race for the last couple of years and I was keen to take part if the bike was right.

"There are a few other good machines in the line-up so I think there’s going to be a bit of competition this year, particularly with the chance to make history with the first 100mph lap."
