End of an era for newspaper

by isleofman.com 1st March 2012

It's the final two days for 23 local workers at Isle of Man Newspapers who are being made redundant.

From next Monday, the company’s titles will no longer be printed locally but at a press in Sheffield and seven full time and 16 part time and casual staff are to go.

Although the 19 year old press in the Isle of Man could give more years service, management say it's no longer fit for purpose and the cost of refurbishing or replacing it is prohibitive.

This week’s Manx Independent will be the last paper to be printed on the Island.

Editor Richard Butt says whilst he's sad to see jobs go, the company has to move with the times
