OFT warns of London 2012 scam

by isleofman.com 25th February 2012

The Office of Fair Trading is warning of a new potential scam.

People are being sent letters which say as a result of a draw they are entitled to a lump sum payout.

A significant number of personal details are requested so the alleged payout can be made.

The letter is purported to be from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited and is headed up with the logo used by the committee.

It also asks for the recipient to keep the details of the correspondence confidential.

The advice from the OFT is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The letter should just be binned.

You should consider discussing any such correspondence with friends or relatives, or get advice from the Office of Fair Trading on 686500.
