MLC wanted student fees to stop pre-school closures

The politician who resigned in the row over closure of the Island's pre-schools has revealed he would have introduced student fees instead.

MLC Dudley Butt left the Department of Education and Children on Tuesday in disagreement at its decision to close the Family and Mobile libraries and transfer state-run pre-schools into private ownership.

Mr Butt instead proposed making savings from charging tuition fees for Island university students, as long as they were means-tested:
