Social care minister makes home care pledge

The number of home care assistants employed by the Department of Social Care will expand significantly in the coming years.

That's according to minister Chris Robertshaw, who said there were currently 89 of them, including supervisors.

The department wants to expand the home care service, to offset the planned closure of its Glenside Residential Home.

Speaking in Tynwald this week, Mr Robertshaw told East Douglas MHK Brenda Cannell he was confident of attracting staff of a sufficient calibre, despite ackowledging her assertion it wasn't a particularly well paid job:
