ALMOST 90 per cent of women have cellulite - instead of shelling out money for magic creams and potions why not try our solution of strength training.

According to Wayne Wescott, the director of Fitness Research, he believes that making smarter diet choices and then targeting the muscle underneath the fat has the potential to improve cellulite.

The major culprit being around the hips and thighs so to reduce this 'orange peel' effect you need to burn fat off your posterior and then prop it up with a solid, muscular foundation - the result will be a smoother looking rear view.

Did you know?

Eating clean – all the time makes all the difference when it comes to ridding your body of the dreaded cellulite.

Tried and tested 70 per cent of women saw less cellulite after an eight week strength training programme.

The routine used was basic – 20 minute weight training sessions three times a week.  Working with five leg exercises (leg curl, leg extension, hip adduction, hip abduction and leg press) and five upper body and core exercises (crunch, back extension, chest press, seated row and overhead press) participants were told to move quickly from machine to machine additionally creating a boost in their metabolic rate.

They performed each move for one set of 10 to 15 reps taking two seconds to lift and four seconds to lower.  After each exercise they also performed brief, simple stretches.

Add to this a change in eating patterns – a second group of participants reduced their daily calorie intake to between 1600 and 2200 calories – and they fared even better when it came to fat loss losing about six pounds more weight, three times as much fat and twice the amount of hip girth.

So in order to combat cellulite the winning combination is 'eating clean and lifting weights'.
