Council house review and child benefit reduced

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare is supporting Chief Minister Allan Bell's review of the benefit system.

Only a few details emerged in his budget speech but some changes to child benefit were announced.

Support for second and subsequent children is being reduced to ?13.50 per week.

He also stated that around a quarter of families receiving child benefit earn more than ?70,000 per annum at a cost of ?3 million a year.

Mr Teare says this must change and he will work with the Minister for Social Care before a policy is implemented.

And he gave warning he will act to prevent those who can afford private sector rented homes from occupying council houses:
