TOTAL government spending in the Isle of Man is around £10,600 per head, per year, for every man, woman and child of the Island's population.
The Island's Budget for 2012/2013 was revealed today (Tuesday) by the Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK.
The £10,600 figure includes the following:
- Around £3,070 per head on benefits including the state pension, income support and child benefit, plus £748 on social care including £219 on children's services.
- £1,992 per head on health services including £272 each on providing free or subsidised prescriptions or drugs and £150 on treating Manx patients in the UK.
- £1,153 on education including £131 on university fees.
- £376 on the police, fire, prison and other areas of home affairs.
- £157 on supporting agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
- £92 on waste management, £82 on local authority housing deficiencies and a further £24 subsidising local swimming pools and other facilities.
- £105 per head on public transport and heritage railways.
- £88 on sports, arts and entertainment.
- £65 per head on the airport, £30 on the highways and £107 per head on drainage and operation of the sewerage system.
- £690 per head on former government employees pensions of which around £225 comes from current employees contributions.
