Kerford clinches cup for Corinthians

by isleofman.com 20th February 2012

Sarah Kerford’s extra-time strike proved to be the winner as Corinthians lifted the MBL Floodlit Cup yesterday (Sunday), defeating their Ballafletcher neighbours Douglas Royal 3-2 in the final at the Bowl.

Royal had taken the lead twice through Katie Halsall and Sarah Breen, however, Corinthians levelled through efforts from Leonie Roberts and Kiera Morgan to force extra-time where Kerford’s strike proved decisive.

In Division Two, Old Boys overturned a half-time deficit to win 7-2 at Colby.

The southerners led 2-1 at half-time courtesy of a Kira Buchan penalty and a Laura Beggs strike.

However, the Blackberry Lane outfit netted through Hattie Castle (four), Rachael Warrilier-Grant (two) and Maria Coulter to seal an impressive win.

In the other Division Two match, Peel defeated Rushen Utd 3-0.

Nicola Naden was the hat-trick hero, one from the penalty spot.

Union Mills and Pulrose are through to the semi-finals of the GH Corlett Woods Cup.

Pulrose were pushed hard before winning 2-1 at Ronaldsway, while Union Mills saw off Michael 5-2 after extra-time.
