A 37-year-old man has been jailed for 28 days by magistrates for possessing cannabis resin and resisting arrest.

Terence James Riley, of Mona Drive in Douglas, admitted the offences.

They were committed at a block of flats at James Street on November 28, after police were called to a disturbance at 12.20am.

It was discovered that Riley was in breach of an 11pm curfew and he was arrested.

Prosecutor Justin Bullace said Riley was aggressive and irate and police had to use incapacitant spray three times to restrain him.

At Police Headquarters he was searched and two lumps of cannabis resin were found.

The court heard the defendant was a regular cannabis user but he was attempting to curb his addiction.

For non-payment of fines, dating back to 2010, magistrates imposed a further 18 days in custody, to run consecutive to the 28 days.
