NEETs offered tourism and hospitality work experience

by isleofman.com 14th February 2012

YOUNG people in the Isle of Man who are considered NEET will have the opportunity to gain work experience within the tourism and hospitality sector.

Sleepwell Hotels is working with the Isle of Man Government to help young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) to find work.

10 to 12 young people will take part in a four to six week work placement within the Chesterhouse Hotel and Rutland Hotel from March 9.

This follows a four week training programme which is prepared and led by Angelena Boden from Transform Training.

Mark Wilson, the director of Sleepwell Hotels, said: "We are delighted to be working with the government on this fantastic initiative.

"It is vital to the Island's hotel and catering industry that we develop the hospitality stars of the future and by working in this unique partnership we can offer training and work experience opportunities to young people which they might otherwise struggle to find.

"The management team within the Sleepwell Group will be able to offer an expert insight into the hospitality trade and if we assist in any small way in helping these young people to further their life-skills or their careers it will be time and investment well spent."

Economic Development Minister John Shimmin MHK added: "The Department of Economic Development's Training Services Division has worked with the Sleepwell Group to develop a programme specifically for young unemployed people.

"I would like to thank the managers who have supported the idea and been willing to adapt their current recruitment process.

"The Sleepwell Group's involvement in this valuable programme has enabled us to offer vocational training that meets the demands of local employers as well as potential employees.

"This is a great example of the government and the local business community working together and the department welcomes this unique employment opportunity.

"I would encourage more businesses to consider offering work placements to those who are currently out of work who may be looking for an opportunity to prove themselves."
