TWO people were rescued from their home in Port Erin this morning (Friday) after becoming trapped when a fire broke out.
Fire crews from Port Erin and Castletown were called to the property on Bradda Road at 6.21am.
On arrival firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus and using a thermal imaging camera, had to break into the property.
They helped escort the occupants – who had woken up to find their house smoke logged – to fresh air and safety.
The cause of the smoke was traced to the oil boiler in the living room and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire using a high pressure hose and Co2 extinguishers.
The female occupant of the property was taken to Noble's Hospital where she received treatment for smoke inhalation. The other occupant was checked by paramedics at the scene.
A spokesperson for Isle of Man Fire and Rescue said the occupants had had a "lucky escape".
The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has said it is "very important" that at least one smoke detector is fitted in a property to give an early warning sign in the event of a fire breaking out.
