Parkinson's charity to benefit from hotel's support

by isleofman.com 9th February 2012

A CHARITY which provides support to local people who suffer from Parkinson's disease has been made the Best Western Palace Hotel's charity of the year.

The hotel will organise a series of fundraising events throughout 2012 for the Isle of Man Parkinson's Disease Society.

The first confirmed fundraising event is an Adele tribute night which will take place on Saturday, March 3, at 7pm.

Other ideas in the pipeline include a midsummer ball, race night and a Halloween party.

Adrian Brockhouse, director of hotels and leisure for the Sefton Group, said: "The Parkinson's Society in the Isle of Man is such a worthy cause and does so much important work - both in supporting on-going research and helping those in the Island who suffer from Parkinson's disease.

"As always our staff have been only too willing to throw themselves into organising a range of superb events.

"We also need to recognise and say thank you to all of our customers who get involved each year attending the events and giving generously to boost the amount of money raised."

Pamela Shimwell-Mayo, the founder and chairman of the Isle of Man Parkinson's Society, said: "We're delighted that the staff at the hotel have kindly chosen us to be the benefactors of their efforts this year.

"There are between 400-500 sufferers of Parkinson's disease on the Island and it's vital that we can help those with Parkinson's, and also their carers, to cope with this on-going condition which at present has no known cure."
