MANX National Heritage has announced plans to replace the car park at the Sound.
Work to replace the surface of the car park – from the plastic cellular surface to natural stone paving – will start on February 16.
The Department of Infrastructure will carry out the work which is expected to be completed in May. However the works will be suspended over the Easter fortnight to minimise disruption to visitors.
Manx National Heritage said the Sound has proved to be one of the most popular heritage attractions in the Island with more than 80,000 people visiting in the last two years.
Around 68,000 vehicles use the car park on average per year and according to the heritage organisation this has resulted in the surface becoming worn.
A spokesperson said: "In recent years it has increasingly become more difficult to walk over and maintain."
The lower part of the car park will be closed for resurfacing first, followed by the closure of the upper car park.
Manx National Heritage has apologised in advance to any customers affected by the work.
