Still time to find out more about Inca Trail challenge

by isleofman.com 8th February 2012

THERE is still time to find out more about taking part in a charity trek along the Inca Trail in November.

The South American adventure is being organised by The Children's Centre and budding adventurers are invited to attend a launch event on Wednesday, February 15.

Mark Eastham, fundraising co-ordinator for The Children's Centre, said: "There has been a massive amount of interest in the Inca Trail trip already but there are still places available and we can accommodate more people who want to come to the launch evening.

"However as there is limited space we are asking everyone who wants to attend the launch to register in advance.

"We organised a very successful Inca Trail trip in 2009 and two of the 33 Manx adventurers who took part - Elly Duchars and Ben Megson - will be at the launch evening. I'm sure that Elly and Ben's recollections of their trip will inspire more people to sign up this year."

The Inca Trail is said to be one of the top 10 trekking trails in the world and will begin in Cusco – a city in the heart of the Andes Mountains.

Trekkers will spend their first day acclimatising to an altitude of around 3,300 metres by walking around famous Inca sites in the city before setting off on the Inca Trail the following morning.

The adventure will finish four days later after walkers have made it through the Sun Gate and onto the ruins of Machu Picchu.

The information evening will take place at The Children's Centre's headquarters on Woodbourne Road in Douglas at 6pm. Anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact Mark by calling 01624 676076 or by e-mailing markeastham@thechildrenscentre.org.im or
