'Route can work, with smaller planes'

The Isle of Man to Southampton route is a viable one for airlines, if it's run on a smaller scale.

That's the view of director of Isle of Man Airport Ann Reynolds, who has spoken to Manx Radio following the news Flybe is stopping direct flights to the Hampshire city on February 29.

The airline has not yet made a public statement confirming the news, nor contacted passengers holding tickets after the date the service is due to end.

Southampton is regarded as an important route for southern England and a springing-off point for European routes.

It will still be possible to get there from the Isle of Man, but only with a change of planes at Manchester.

Mrs Reynolds says the route has worked as a direct one, at times:
