Fuel poverty figure unknown

by isleofman.com 2nd February 2012

The government says it can’t tell how many people live in fuel poverty on the Island – because there’s no definition of the term.

Onchan MHK Zac Hall put forward a question for written answer in the House of Keys asking for figures for 2005 and 2011.

However, Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw says it’s not possible to quantify because there’s no definition here.

In the UK, people suffering fuel poverty are paying more than 10 per cent of their income on heating bills.

Mr Robertshaw said because of the difference in earnings and tax, that can’t be applied to the Isle of Man.
