by isleofman.com 2nd February 2012

AN Oscar nominated film which was part made in the Isle of Man will be screened this weekend.

Chico and Rita (cert 15) will be shown at the Broadway Cinema in Douglas on Saturday, February 4 and Sunday, February 5, at 5pm.

The film is an epic love story about a Cuban jazz pianist (Chico) and a club singer (Rita).

Music and romantic desire unites them but their journey – in the tradition of the Latin ballad the bolero – brings heartache and torment.

From Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas, two passionate individuals battle impossible odds to unite in music and love.

Chico and Rita is up for the Best Animated Film Award at the 84th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26.

The film, which was co-financed by Isle of Man Film and CinemaNX, was released in November last year.

Tickets cost £7 for adults and £5 for children (who are under 16) and are available by calling the Villa Gaiety Box Office on 01624 600555.
