by isleofman.com 2nd February 2012

POLICE have appealed for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision yesterday (Wednesday).

A motorcyclist, who was riding a black Yamaha motorcycle, was killed after a collision on the Baldrine to Laxey road at around 5.20pm.

The collision, which also involved a silver Honda Jazz, happened around 150 metres south of the Ballabeg tram crossing on the Manx Electric Railway.

Police say the Honda had been travelling towards Baldrine and the Yamaha had been travelling towards Laxey prior to the collision taking place.

The motorcyclist, who has not been named, sustained fatal injuries in the collision but the occupants of the Honda were uninjured.

Police closed the road for around six hours while they conducted enquiries. The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene with an aerial ladder.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who remembers seeing either of the vehicles described immediately before the collision is asked to contact Inspector Terry Stephen from the Roads Policing Unit on 01624 631449.
