The Manx government earns more than ?400,000 a year from pipelines and cables in our territorial waters.
The figures were revealed by Infrastructure Minister David Cretney in reply to a question for written answer in the House of Keys.
Onchan MHK Zac Hall asked for a list of pipes and cables, who owned them and how much the government gets for them.
In response, Mr Cretney gave a seven-strong list of structures which don’t belong to the government.
Mr Cretney says the seven are: the Mercury Cable, two British Telecom cables between the UK and Ireland, the Hibernia Cable, two Bord Gais Eireann pipelines and a drain for Turkeyland Recycling and Waste Management.
Altogether, the government receives just over ?409,000 each year in revenue and there’s been more than ?2 million in one-off payments for the facilities.
The pipes and cables themselves are used for transmitting data, natural gas and storm water.
