A LOCAL head teacher who is running his first marathon in April has enlisted a brass quintet to help with his fundraising efforts.
Adrian Shorthouse, who is head teacher at Scoill Vallajeelt, will run the London Marathon in aid of the Alzheimer's Society Isle of Man on April 22.
The 39 year old wants to raise more than £3,000 for the charity which is particularly close to his heart as his late mother suffered from the disease.
In an effort to drum up more support Adrian has organised for the Sheean Prash quintet to perform "Music to Watch Shoppers Buy" in The Strand in Douglas on Saturday, February 11.
Sheean Prash – which is Manx for "brass sound" – is made up of trumpeters Juan Wright, Helen Quaggin-Molloy and Julie Harrison, French horn player Chris Weeks and tuba player Grant Taylor.
The quintet will play a selection of music for shoppers including Mancini, Gershwin and The Beatles.
Juan, who formed Sheean Prash in 2004, said: "We are delighted to be assisting Adrian's efforts to raise money for such a worthy charity and wish him well in his preparations for the London Marathon in April.
"We have found The Strand to be an excellent venue in the past and we hope shoppers will give generously this time."
John Shakespeare, manager of the The Strand, said: "Sheean Prash played in the centre over Christmas and their music immediately transformed the atmosphere into an even more enjoyable experience.
"Musical performances of this nature are great because there is none of the rigidity of a formal concert and you can stop and listen for as long as you like.
"Over the years The Strand has supported many worthwhile charities and none more so than Adrian's efforts for Alzheimer's Society Isle of Man."
Members of the public can also make a donation to Adrian by clicking here or by sending a cheque, payable to Adrian Shorthouse, via Scoill Vallajeelt, Meadow Crescent, Douglas, IM2 1NN.
Adrian and his friends and colleagues will also be collecting money following Douglas Choral Union's matinee performance of Miss Saigon on Saturday, February 18 and outside Shoprite in Ramsey on Saturday, February 25.
