CCTV, Ed Milliband's comments and the bus timetable on House of Keys agenda

by isleofman.com 31st January 2012

"ILL informed" comments made by the Labour Party leader Ed Milliband will be raised in the House of Keys today (Tuesday).

North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson will ask the Island's Chief Minister about comments Mr Milliband made about British offshore finance centres earlier this month.

The leader of the Labour Party called for an end to UK "tax havens" starting with the Channel Islands and Isle of Man in a series of articles published in the UK national media.

Allan Bell MHK described Mr Milliband’s comments as an "ill informed attack" and will be asked today what action he intends to take in relation to the comments and what impact Mr Milliband's comments have had.

There are six questions for oral answer in the House of Keys today.

Mr Henderson will also ask the Community, Culture and Leisure Minister Tim Crookall MHK about the Island's bus timetable.

He wants to know if Mr Crookall has reviewed all of the complaints received by his department in relation to the timetable and "what his intentions are regarding this commentary from the public".

Health Minister David Anderson MHK will be asked what plans he has to introduce regular recall for breast screening for all women, including those over 70, by Ramsey MHK Leonard Singer.

There are five questions for written answer – four of which will be asked by Onchan MHK Zac Hall.

South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft will ask Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson MHK about CCTV in Douglas.

She wants to know how many CCTV systems there are in Douglas and how many cameras there are in each system.

On top of this Mrs Beecroft wants figures for how many times the police have requested footage from these systems in the last three years and how many times CCTV evidence been used as evidence in court.

Mrs Beecroft will also ask if there have been any cases in which CCTV evidence alone has led to a successful prosecution and how many crimes have been prevented by CCTV cameras in Douglas in the last three years.

Today's sitting of the House of Keys will start at 10am.
