New artist in residence wanted for Sayle Gallery

by isleofman.com 31st January 2012

ART graduates in the Isle of Man have a chance of becoming the next artist in residence at the Sayle Gallery in Douglas.

The gallery is searching for an artist for the year long position which will start on April 1.

The position is open to arts graduates who are resident in the Isle of Man and the successful applicant will receive £10,000.

A spokesperson for the Sayle Gallery said the position would appeal to an artist who likes the idea of making art in a public place and is comfortable dealing with people.

Hazel Walsh is the current artist in residence at the gallery. She has used her residency to work on, and complete, her "Mann, Abandoned" project.

She explained: "Having the security to produce work that is not necessarily commercial, but allows me to develop my artistic practice and try new things, has been invaluable.

"Without the residency it would have taken me several years to complete 'Mann, Abandoned' and I'm not sure I would have taken so many risks."

For more information on the residency artists should e-mail saylegallery@manx.net. For more information on Mann, Abandoned, click here.
