Geordies move six clear

by isleofman.com 28th January 2012

St George’s continued their relentless march to the Canada Life Premier League title on Saturday.

The reigning champions overcame the stern challenge of 2010 champions Rushen to edge ever closer to another championship success.

Skipper Sean Quaye and Ciaran McNulty were on target and there was also an own goal as the Geordies won 3-2 at Croit Lowey.

Adam Cregeen and Josh Kelly netted for the hosts but they couldn’t check the seemingly unstoppable progress of the champions.

Peel were too strong for Ramsey Youth Centre at Douglas Road.

A hat-trick from Kerron Christian, doubles from Lee Gale and one apiece from Liam Harrison and Matty Woods sealed a 7-0 success for the westerners.

First half goals from Mike Peace and Nick Hurt fired St John’s to a 2-0 home win over Ramsey, while bottom club Ayre United’s winter misery continued as they went down 4-1 at Corinthians.

A Blane Slattery hat-trick and a Jamie Stoy goal did the damage.

The Tangerines were still in the hunt before conceding two injury time goals.
