'Meat plant in decline', says minister

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne says the Isle of Man's meat plant would never be able to be run profitably as a commercial operation.

This morning (Tuesday) in the House of Keys he faced detailed questioning from Middle MHK Howard Quayle about the plant and its losses.

Mr Gawne said since the loss of the red meat derogation, at the end of 2010, the plant had been in decline and unable to compete with operations in the United Kingdom, and further afield.

He admitted it was unlikely it could ever have been a commercial success:
