Job cuts: union says 'look at senior positions too'

Public sector job losses are 'inevitable' as the Manx government embarks on cash-saving reforms, according to the chief minister.

In a pre-budget warning, Allan Bell has confirmed his administration aims to shave more than ?30 million off the current government salary bill of ?300 million.

Mr Bell says it's vital to face up to realities and accept change, if the Isle of Man is to survive and thrive into the future (first part of audio file):

Meanwhile, head of the Unite union on the Island Steve Salter acknowledges unpopular decisions will have to be made.

However, he hopes the vulnerable are protected, and senior positions are looked at as well (second part of audio file):
