New social security benefit to be introduced this month

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2012

A NEW social security benefit will be introduced this month after being approved by Tynwald.

The Employed Person's Allowance (EPA) will replace Family Income Supplement (FIS) and Disability Working Allowance (DWA) from January 31.

A statement by the Department of Social Care said the introduction of the EPA has several benefits.

The department said it will simplify the process for eligible people who are in work but on low incomes, it will achieve efficiency savings for the department and it will reduce the amount of legislation Tynwald needs to consider each year.

The rates of allowance are the same as those available for the Family Income Supplement and Disability Working Allowance. All recipients of those benefits will be contacted and notified about the change.
