MHK given figures for R-plate offences

by isleofman.com 20th January 2012

R-plate drivers are committing fewer minor motoring offences, but the number caught speeding doubled last year.

The figures were revealed in a question for written answer in Tynwald.

North Douglas MHK John Houghton asked Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson how many restricted drivers had been speeding, and involved in traffic offences and crashes over the last five years.

Mr Watterson revealed 14 people with R-plates were caught speeding last year, eight more than in 2010.

His answer also reveals restricted drivers accounted for 19 minor motoring offences in 2011, which was five fewer than the previous year.
