PAG turns up heat on consultants issue

by isleofman.com 20th January 2012

An Isle of Man pressure group says a clear policy is needed to decide when consultants can be employed by government departments and public bodies.

It follows the revelation this week that the bill for consultancy projects currently under way on the Island stands at almost ?12 million.

The figure was given in Tywnald, after Speaker of the House of Keys Steve Rodan asked for a detailed breakdown on the use of private firms, funded by the taxpayer, to carry out work for government.

Chairman of the Positive Action Group Roger Tomlinson says PAG is asking what rules govern the use of consultants (listen to audio file below):

The breakdown on consultancy costs can be viewd at PAG's website, positiveactiongroup.org
