Attempt to get 2,012 people for the 2012 Parish Walk

by isleofman.com 19th January 2012

MANX Telecom is attempting to encourage 2,012 people to take part in the 2012 Parish Walk.

Last year 1,753 people took part in the event – the highest number of walkers ever to take part – but it is hoped that this total can be beaten this year.

As of today (January 19) 334 people have signed up to take part in the event which challenges walkers to walk all, or part of, the 85 mile course.

Race director Ray Cox said: "We're very pleased with the number of entries so far - it's the best we've ever had in January and puts us on course to beat last year's record breaking total."

David Smith, Manx Telecom's marketing director, said he would like to see 2,012 people enter the Parish Walk.

He explained: "Reaching 2012 entries would be a magnificent achievement and further enhance what is already a fantastic community and sports event.

"It's an ambitious target but one that is attainable given the popularity of the Parish Walk across the Island.

"We are confident that our ambitions for the Manx Telecom Parish Walk will be shared and supported by the Island's community and the tremendous community spirit which has helped to make the event what it is today."

The Parish Walk will take place on Saturday, June 23. It costs £30 to enter but Manx Telecom customers can save £5 by signing up to the race by January 31. For more information visit www.parishwalk.com.
