Health consultant's advice on PIP implants

Women on the Island who have had the controversial French PIP breast implants should not rush to have them removed.

That's the message from the Department of Health, which is following current advice from authorities in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Health chiefs say there is no evidence the PIP implants, which contain industrial rather than medical grade silicone, pose any greater risk if they rupture, than other types.

And health chiefs say undergoing additional surgery in itself carries a health risk.

Isle of Man consultant in public health Dr Paul Emerson was asked by Manx Radio what he would advise a close family member to do:
