RAMSEY lifeboat was called to the aid of a fisherman who had amputated his thumb this morning (Wednesday).
The volunteer crew of the lifeboat received a call for help at 9.55am from a member of crew working for a local fishing vessel.
The vessel was positioned just off the harbour entrance, within sight of the lifeboat station, but could not enter the harbour because of the tidal conditions.
Ramsey lifeboat was launched and was alongside the fishing vessel within minutes.
On arrival the lifeboat crew found that a fisherman had amputated his thumb while working with fishing gear.
The casualty was transferred to the lifeboat and taken to Ramsey Beach where he was met by the lifeboat station's shore crew.
The fisherman, who was conscious and walking, was then taken to an ambulance which was waiting at the top of the slipway.
He was assessed and stabilised by paramedics before being transferred to Noble's Hospital.
