Finnish enduro rider Mika Ahola has died following a training accident in Spain.

The 37-year-old passed away in hospital a few weeks after the crash, which left him with severe internal injuries.

Ahola won five consecutive world titles from 2007 to 2011 and was the first to win across three different classes.

He also won the International Six Day Enduro three times outright and seven times as part of the Finnish national team.

Announcing his retirement from racing at the start of this year, he said: 'I have fulfilled my ambitions and I feel that it is time to move on and see what else the world has to offer'.
