AN internal investigation is imminent over whether Tynwald was misled regarding the project to expand Kirk Michael primary school.
A total contradiction of understanding became apparent at this morning’s sitting of Tynwald over whether the vital subject of a new roadway access to the site at the rear of the school has actually been approved by planners or not.
Education Minister Peter Karran said that, according to his department’s officers, the access had been approved and was in place, under which circumstances the department had agreed to the proposed expansion of the school taking place.
However, Michael MHK Alf Cannan said that a statement issued at the planning inquiry into the scheme had been told that the access point had not been approved because it did not comply with minimum splay and visibility requirements.
Responding to a question from Mr Cannan, Mr Karran said that he had not investigated the matter because he had been led to believe that the approval had been granted and was not in question.
Mr Cannan’s response questioned whether Tynwald had been misled over the matter.
Mr Karran has undertaken to investigate the circumstances and provide a response as soon as possible.
