A NEW purpose built health and community centre in Jurby will open its doors to patients on Monday (January 23).
The state of the art facility has cost £1.6 million and will be manned, initially, five mornings each week by a GP and practice nurse.
Health services for people in Jurby are currently being provided by the Ramsey Group Practice.
All patients who are registered with, or in the catchment area for, the Ramsey Group Practice will be able to request their appointment at either facility depending on their preference.
Dr Graham Wilson, senior partner at Ramsey Group Practice, said: "We're looking forward to commencing services from the new health centre in Jurby.
"We of course remain committed to our operations in Ramsey and Kirk Michael, but this is an important step forward in ensuring adequate capacity and facilities for general practice in the north of the Island."
Health Minister David Anderson MHK said: "The opening of the health and community centre in Jurby is a fantastic start to the New Year.
"With the building works fully completed and the premises handed over to the department we’re now able to get on with realising our ambition of providing greater capacity and easier patient accessibility for general practice in the north of the Island.
"I'd like to extend my thanks to everyone involved in bringing this project to fruition and hope that everyone in the local area makes use of the new facilities which will be a valuable asset to the whole community."
As well as providing facilities for general practice the new health and community centre will also be northern base for the Department of Health’s community nursing staff.
The Children's Centre and Age Concern will also provide services from the centre.
