Trying to compare Manx Gas prices with those of energy company EDF is totally unrealistic, according to the director and engineering manager of the Isle of Man operation, Robert Gardner.
At the end of last week, EDF announced it would be cutting a typical gas bill for domestic customers in the United Kingdom by five per cent from February 7, after a sharp fall in wholesale gas prices due to the mild weather.
Manx Gas says it's not currently in a position to reduce its tariffs, as it forward purchases its gas supplies for the winter period, to try and control increases and stabilise costs for consumers.
Mr Gardner says Manx Gas raised the natural gas tariff by 2.5 per cent and the cost of LPG by eight per cent last August, when prices in the UK went up by average of 15 per cent.
And he says it's not realistic to put the two companies' price structures side by side:
