TWO Romanian nationals have been sentenced to six months in prison in the Isle of Man for theft.
Razvan Sava (male), 23, and Lenuta Rostasi (female), 26, who live in Sheffield, were arrested on Friday (January 13) following an urgent police appeal.
Police had urged businesses around the Island to be vigilant following reports of a couple using distraction/confusion techniques to carry out theft.
They said a number of incidents across the Island had taken place on Thursday (January 12) - all involving the same two people.
Businesses were told not to engage in changing money with the couple and members of the public were encouraged to report any sightings of them to police.
The two Romanian's were subsequently arrested and charged with six offences of theft from businesses in the north, south and east of the Island.
Appearing at Douglas Courthouse this morning (Monday) both individuals were sentenced to six months in prison and were also served with a five year exclusion order from the Island.
Sergeant Steve Goldsmith from the Eastern Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "I would like to thank the members of the public who assisted in this matter by reporting sightings. It was as a direct result of one of these sightings that we were able to arrest these two individuals promptly and before they had the chance to leave the Island."
