TT visitors to the Island could find themselves sleeping in a "Snoozebox" this year if plans to erect a temporary hotel are approved.
London company Snoozebox Limited has applied for planning approval to construct a 240 bed hotel and a food and drink marquee in Noble's Park.
The plans, which are a way of increasing the number of bed spaces for TT 2012 and 2013, show the hotel situated on land adjacent to the café and the changing rooms.
Savage and Chadwick Architects are handling the planning application on behalf of Snoozebox Limited.
A letter submitted by the architects to the Planning Division of the Department of Infrastructure reads: "Snoozebox is a temporary hotel concept which provides accommodation at major motorsport and other events.
"The company have been in discussion with the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure concerning the provision of a 240 bed facility at TT 2012 in response to substantiated survey figures which indicate that there is again likely to be a significant shortage of bed spaces when compared to visitor numbers.
"The siting of the Snoozebox complex is deliberately positioned to minimise any impact on surrounding residential properties and be as close as possible to the Grandstand and Paddock complex."
Snoozebox hotel rooms are housed in converted storage containers which are stacked on top of one another. Each room has a bed, en-suite wet room with toilet and shower, flat screen TV and internet access.
The Snoozebox complex is operated like a permanent hotel with a general manager and team of housekeeping staff. Rooms are serviced daily and 24 hour night security is provided.
The hotel does not need mains services or drainage. Electricity is provided by temporary generators, drainage is held in a sealed container which is periodically emptied and water is provided from a storage tanker.
Access to the hotel would be through the Noble's Park Access Road.
Following this year's TT the Snoozebox hotel would be taken to the Le Mans 24 hour endurance race which is held between June 15 and June 17.
The application for planning approval was submitted on January 5 and is currently pending consideration. A submission has also been made for a temporary fire certificate from the Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service. A decision on whether the plans will be approved or rejected should take place in March.
