Stroke awareness day to be held in Ramsey

by isleofman.com 16th January 2012

AN awareness day will be held in Ramsey this weekend to highlight how people can reduce their risk of having a stroke.

The event, on Saturday, January 21, is being held by the Rotary Club of Ramsey in conjunction with the Stroke Association and the Isle of Man Ambulance Service.

According to the Stroke Association one in six people worldwide will have a stroke in their lifetime.

Stroke is the third most common cause of death in England and Wales, after heart disease and cancer, and accounts for nine per cent of all deaths in men and 13 per cent of deaths in women in the UK.

The awareness day, which takes place at Ramsey Town Hall between 10am and 2pm, will offer local people the chance to have their blood pressure and pulse rate checked to see if they are at risk of having a stroke.
